Kingdom Death: Monster 1.5

Would you like some Lion nuts with your beer? The biggest and baddest Tabletop Kickstarter ever.  12 Million dollars?  YEP!  Kingdom Death known for their boutique horror miniatures made a game called Monster.  The latest release is version 1.5.  19lbs. of adventuring goodness. I am one of the crazy people that bought into the game and I am extremely excited to play it.  The biggest draw for me as a hobby painter/modeller is the sheer amount of miniatures that come with the game.  You have to assemble your starting 4 and the first monster before you can even play the game.    The sculpts are so amazing and so detailed it is very intimidating to me as a novice painter not that I don't know how to paint them.  It's just that I fear I cannot do the sculpt justice. The game itself plays 1-4 players in a series of Lantern Years.  In it players will hunt quarry to harvest materials they then use in the Settlement phase.  ...

GKR: Heavy Hitters

It's HAPSI TIME! Have you ever watched a movie called: The Lord of the Rings, District 9, Bladerunner 2049, Ghost In the Shell, Mad Max: Fury Road, and The Hobbit?  What is one thing that these films have in common besides theme? They all had special effects and props done by the wonderful folks at Weta Workshop out of New Zealand. Those crazy talented folks who named their business after a type of Grasshopper native to NZ; a Weta! What does this have to do with boardgames?  Well what do you get when you combine the talent and imagination of Weta with giant mechs pitted in arena combat?  You get Giant Killer Robots (GKR)! Weta has teamed up with boardgame manufacturer Cryptozoic Entertainment to bring GKR: Heavy Hitters.   A game for 2-4 players where you fight for your Corporate Sponsor for the right to destroy buildings and each other.  The games mechs are amazing looking; not surprising coming from the teams that brought you Dis...

Star Wars: Armada

Call up the Hammerheads! I have an idea! Yes folks, it's Star Wars season.  With the premiere of Star Wars the Last Jedi this past week, Star Wars hype/hate is through the roof.  I'll be getting ready to make my annual pilgrimage to the movie theatre; it's hard to get out when your child's age is counted in months.   Keeping with the theme of Star Wars I thought today's subject would be about something that is a bit of an obsession for me. Let's pause for a bit while I take you into the weeds about my personal experience with Star Wars.  Being that I was born in 1978 I wasn't around for the original Star Wars and I was obviously a little too young to watch the Empire Strikes Backs at Age 2.  Although, I fondly remember a Dukes of Hazzard Wrist watch car toy; growing up Asian in Alberta! YEEE HAW! So yes, Return of the Jedi was one of the first movies I saw in theatre.  In a sad bit of nostalgia the theatre at Southcentre Mall is gone.  Bu...

Gloomhaven

Soldier of Fortune?   Expendables?  Why yes!  Welcome to Gloomhaven. If you've been following big tabletop Kickstarters like me, you will have heard of Gloomhaven by Isaac Childres of Cephalofair Games.  The game had a small first printing, and people who played it raved so much that demand came in like a wrecking ball.  The game became so popular there wasn't enough for retail and with massive demand it sparked a second print run on Kickstarter.  This time I did not miss my chance to blow.   2 weeks ago this unassuming box with the words Gloomhaven on the side arrived.   Copy #514 of 23000. After watching my postman struggle to get the box to my front door I dove into the 22 lbs of gaming goodness to check to make sure everything was there and correct. There have been a lot of reports from backers that some boards have poor gluing and are falling apart.  As well some boards seem to have 1 or 2 misalign...
