Star Wars: Legion

I've got a bad feeling about this...

For my wallet.

My poor poor wallet..It's as if a Million voices cried out all at once.

Yes Folks, the latest miniatures war game from Fantasy Flight Games.  At this point in time I might as well just sign my paycheque directly to FFG and they can just send me plastic things that go pew!

Set in the Star Wars Universe you will be able to engage in epic battles with your favorite heroes and vehicles from the Canon.

Released last week on March 22nd, the Core Set and Wave 1 expansions.  I've been following the not pre-ordering things idiom from the video game world lately and did not pre order this game.  Sadly I didn't get a copy at my main Local Game store on launch day.  As destiny would have it ootandaboot with my wife and child on the weekend we stopped in at another game store that I hardly ever go to; due to the distance from where I live, and they had lots of copies left.

In a extraordinary move of courage I picked up the game in front of the watchful eyes of my wife, feeling her gaze of disapproval...what spending more money on plastic bits?

Clutching it close to my chest and making a dash for the end zone.  Can he make it before that gaze turns into a headshake and vocal disapproval.

Like my son at the Toy Store I cling on for dear life zig zagging through the aisles, he's past the Puzzles, he's past the Gateway Games, he's past the demo table, oh no here comes the block from the Wife -- At the last second the store owners rushes in to block!

"My kids have been playing this game all weekend!"

I make it into the endzone for the score!

In the words of Joe Buck - Slamma-lamma-ding-dong!

Needless to say,  I've been spending the last few nights assembling models, shaving mould lines and filling gaps with Green Stuff.  I think I am going to play the Rebellion faction the most and will paint those up first.  All in total the Coreset comes with 33 Miniatures to assemble and paint.  Fair warning that this is probably going to be the subject of my blog for the next few weeks.

The game if you were to compare it to something is a much lighter/cleaner Warhammer 40K set in the Star Wars Universe.

You still build your army around points; 800 for a full game.  The game features command cards with a certain number of pips on them and you bid to see who goes first that round.  Also depending on what your command card says you either get to select units to use or you have to randomly draw them from a bag.

Attacks and defence are based on dice, it's as if FFG took dice from all their other miniatures games and combined them into this one.  You have D6 from Imperial Assault, D8 from Armada and X-wing, the symbols from the dice are mainly the same for those games with hits, crits, shields, and surges.

The thing I really like about this game is that Advanced Terrain rules are incoming so I will be able to use a lot of my terrain that I have for Infinity.  I have some MDF bulkheads, and a small town.  Now that I have an airbrush I think it will motivate me to paint up some of my MicroArt Studio scatter pieces as well.  Gotta love something small from Poland!

I have also been researching making clusters of trees from model train stuff and will post a journal on  that.  As you can see there is a lot of exciting hobby stuff for me to attempt in the near future.

I'll post some battle reports after I get my division all nice and shiny!

Flashpoint Painting Diary

I hope that everyone had a chance to decompress during the holidays and recharge your batteries for 2018.  My Christmas was full of family stuff and I was hoping to get some more board gaming in but alas I succumbed to a nasty flu virus and was knocked out for 4 days. Anyhow before any of that happened I managed to make some progress on the miniatures for Flashpoint.   When we left each other last you saw a preview of the HAZMAT Operator: Colour Diary When ever I am going create a painting diary post I am going to list the colours so that, if you at home someday are reading this blog you can follow along.  Citadel Paints are easily found in most Gaming Stores and if you are in a large city and have a Games Workshop they would carry the full line.  When I started painting I bought a lot of Citadel paints, but about 4 months in I switched over to Vallejo because it comes in a dropper bottle.  Let me tell you how much easier it is to work with!  Not to mention that it

Star Wars: Legion Rebels Painting Diary

Star Wars: Legion Painting Diary Build Diary The models that come with the game need to be assembled.  Unlike some of the metal miniatures from Infinity with 5-10 parts these are mainly 2-3 parts.  You should make a decision to glue the arms to the models or leave them lose and assemble afterwards.  Some of the sculpts make it difficult to get areas with a brush after its been glued.  Personally for me I like to glue everything together for better priming, zenithal lighting and if you make a mistake later with a gap it will be harder to fill and colour match.   In any case you should test fit all the pieces before glueing to make sure its flush,  the injection point for the mould is where the joint goes into the body.  On some of the models there was some extra plastic in the way to allow the model to be flush.  Take your hobby knife and clean it up a bit and test fit it again until its flush. After I glued the pieces in, I highly recommend holding it into position
